Teaching philosophy
My approach as a teacher is mostly based on my work with my mentor and dear friend David L. Jones. I had the extraordinary chance of traveling to New York a couple of times a year and not only having lessons every day with David but also staying at his home and sitting in on lessons with other singers. I got to sit, for sometimes 4-6 hours each day and just listen to a multitude of voices at different stages of development. This is where I learned how to really HEAR voices. But it is not enough just to hear what is going on, you have to have an extensive toolset to deal with each person and vocal issue individually. David has an incredibly broad toolset and I am still
to this day, learning something new from him. The knowledge of both voice and remedy has to be there to effectively teach a person to use their voice, not to mention knowing how to approach people in a friendly and supportive manner. This is quite rare, and I am very lucky to have enjoyed such teaching in my life as a singer and teacher. You have to be able and willing to seek knowledge and not pillage knowledge but really acknowledge other teachers and people for what they have taught you. It costs nothing to be a kind person, but it can gain everything.
